In September 2024, Morganannounced her retirementfrom soccer at the same time she announced she was pregnant with her second child.
The longtime USWNT star said in anInstagram video, “I have so much clarity about this decision … It has been a long time coming and this decision wasn’t easy, but at the beginning of 2024 I felt in my heart and soul that this would be the last season I would play soccer.”
Morgan told PEOPLE a month later that her pregnancy was a “surprise” and led to her decision to retire earlier than expected.
“We're just really looking forward to expanding our family,” said the two-time World Cup champion. “We've wanted to do this for a while, but we obviously wanted to find the right time. It came a few months earlier than anticipated, as the pregnancy was a little unexpected, but looking back I'm really grateful for how everything worked out.”
